Tributes to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Near The Inn

Baltimore Celebrates Civil Rights“Life’s most urgent question is: what are you doing for others?”
- Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

While the heart of the nation reflects on the contributions of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Fells Point will be a short distance away from commemorative activities that remind the community of his historic leadership.

Two museums join forces on Monday, January 15, from noon to 4pm to salute Dr. King. The Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History & Culture presents “Our Beloved Community: Lessons Learned from Martin Luther King Jr.” In partnership with Port Discovery children’s museum, this years Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration will highlight Dr. King’s historic contributions to the importance of community. Activities will feature lectures, crafts, freedom songs, community booths and films.

On Tuesday, January 16 at 8pm, join the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) and Soulful Symphony for a musical tribute to the great American civil rights leader. Soulful Symphony is a stunning orchestra comprised of 75 exceptionally talented African-American musicians. Founded in 2000 by renowned composer, conductor, and pianist Darin Atwater, Soulful Symphony blends virtually every genre of music – gospel, jazz, classical and more – into a completely original musical experience that will move your feet and stir your soul. Soulful Symphony and the BSO are making history through this unprecedented partnership. The 21st Annual Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. will take place at Meyerhoff Symphony Hall.
